## How BestBid bidding works

- **Flat bids, no hidden maximum.** The site records exactly the amount you submit. There is no proxy bidding: if you bid your maximum, everyone sees it immediately. The next legal bid is always the current price plus the lot's increment.
- **Soft close.** A bid in a lot's final minutes moves its end to about 5 minutes after that bid, so a lot keeps extending while people keep bidding ([soft close](https://ghostnode.co/glossary/soft-close)).
- **A fee on the bid.** The site's bidding dialog shows a 5% auction fee on the bid amount.
- **Lots disappear after the close.** Shortly after a lot ends, its page stops being available, so check results quickly.

## How to bid well on BestBid

1. **Never enter your maximum as a bid.** With flat bids, that tells every rival your limit. Bid the minimum needed to lead.
